2Day's Tune: Jonathan Wilson - Dear Friend

Last year at Electric Picnic I found two new favourite bands; Dry The River and Californian Jonathan Wilson who with his great band played a great set of tunes. Here's his new single, 'Dear Friend' taken from the band's 2nd album 'Fanfare' released in October.

2Day's Tune: Jukebox Gypsy - Down to the River to Pray

So I'm back from a family holiday in Crete where I got a little Sun and lots of great memories. One memory I'll have for a long time will be of hearing my daughter sing this traditional folk song on a table in a friend's restaurant.

Jukebox Gypsy can be seen live in Clonmel at the Busking Festival from Aug 8th - 11th where all performances are free! Also on the bill are Ham Sandwich, John Spillane, The Lost Brothers, The Frank & Walters and many more:

2Day's Tune: Hogan - Gimme Love

After years of serving an apprenticeship in the Irish music scene, Hogan have now a well packaged radio friendly indie sound that's making major progress on radio and in the press. Check out the title track from their new EP:

2Day's Tune: Kapitals - Ms Heartache

There's a trend for bands dropping the 'The' in front of their name. First up was 'Raglans' who I'm sure were known at one stage as 'The Raglans'. Next 'Riot Tapes' dropped the 'The' as too have 'Gorgeous Colours' and now 'Kapitals'...... anyway ....

Kapitals are a good band and this song is a tasty radio friendly indie pop song that deserves your attention:

Be sure to catch Kapitals at some of the upcoming festivals!

2Day's Tune: Mara Simpson - Whiskey

Last year I got the chance to see Berlin based, New Zealander Mara Simpson live in Boyles of Slane and it was a wonderful performance. The good news is that she's touring Ireland again including hitting Boyles. The bad news is I'm still away in Crete!

2Day's Tune: Myles Manley - Easy Money

I actually laughed out loud a little when I found out Myles Manley's next release is called 'Greatest Hits 2012 - 2013'. Myles is an artist who intrigues me, fascinates me and at the same time confuses me. It'll only when I actually get to see him live that 'Myles Manley' the package will actually make sense. Or maybe not.

Will 'Easy Money' be on his greatest hits album?

Myles is just back from a few stateside gigs and will play Castlepalooza next weekend and Knockanstockan this coming weekend.

2Day's Tune: Let's Set Sail - Boats

2Day's Tune: Ruarri Joseph - Anyway

So today I'm a year older than I was yesterday and I decided to share this great tune from Cornwall's Ruarri Joseph. It's a wonderful song lyrically and Ruarri was the first act we seen at Glastonbury in the Avalon Cafe on the Thursday morning. Ruarri's a superb talent that you should listen to ......

2Day's Tune: The Heads of State - Day's Long

2Day's Tune: Lucy Ward - Icarus

Lucy Ward is making considerable progress in the UK folk scene thanks to the release of her second album entitled 'Single Flame'. It's an album of atmosphere and relaxed moods very much in the style of Sinead O'Connor. Well worth checking out this considerable talent.

2Day's Tune: The Amazing Few - Ric O' Barry'

Some bands are more difficult to describe than others. 'The Amazing Few' is one of them bands. They are ... eh ...well .... oh just listen to their new single 'Ric O'Barry' about the guy who trained Flipper to be a star.

While 'The Amazing Few' has a sound that I struggle to describe I can say with full honesty that they are one of Ireland's best festival bands that put a smile on your face. See them at Knockanstockan, Sunflower and Electric Picnic!

Live Review: Imelda May at the Iveagh Gardens, Dublin July 11th

Imelda May & her band proved to me yet again that they are one of the most entertaining bands from Ireland with a packed out show opening this year's 'Iveagh Gardens' festival.

Support act Mundy played a fine opening set to get the substantial crowd in the mood for Imelda May. Finishing with Mexico and July he had the crowd up for it and singing away in the evening sun. Mundy certainly made the most of this support slot.

Looking objectively, there's only really a handful of acts out there like Imelda May. For your hard earned cash you'll be guaranteed full on entertainment from a classy band performing as if their life depended on it. There were so many familiar songs in the set like 'Big Bad Handsome Man', 'Inside Out', 'Love Tattoo' and that's even before you get to the hits of 'Johnny's Got a Boom Boom', 'Mayhem' and 'Psycho'. 'Mayhem' was the big highlight on the set.

I wouldn't be a huge fan of the music of Imelda May but her energy, delivery, personality and performance keeps me wanting to see her perform, With the six or seven new songs performed last night there's signs that the Imelda May story will keep on running for many years to come.

There's a big chance you don't know who 'Huey & The Hobgoblins' are but I've seen these guys develop through the years to a good-time folk/retro/blues sound that's high on entertainment value.

2Day's Tune: Kiernan McMullan ft Allie Bradley - Keep The Melody Going

Here's a recent update straight from Nashville based Kiernan McMullan:

" As some of you may have seen, after 5 years of relentless touring, my van has hit a wall. I've had to cancel almost all of my US dates this summer and we're not sure how long it will be until I can get back out to all of you.

I've made 15 songs available for ONE DOLLAR on my website. It includes live recordings and select tracks from all my records as well as the two songs featured solely on my 2010 vinyl release.

If you hit ADD ALBUM TO CART you can have them all for only one dollar, and every penny will be going into either fixing this van, or finding a new way to get back on the road. There is a reason why I never do Kickstarter's or music funding sites and it takes a lot for me to ask for help, but every now and then we need to I guess.

Other than downloading the fifteen songs, you can also helps by purchasing a cd on Itunes, listening to them on Spotify, or ordering hard copies from and my website."

One of those 15 songs you can buy for a $ is this one featuring Allie Bradley on vocals:
