EP Review: Mikey & The Scallywags - Living in the Light

Living in the Light is the 2012 EP released by Galway folk band Mikey & The Scallywags and it's very much worthy of your attention.

Bizarrely bands are keeping me informed with releases from last year. 'Living in the Light' caught my attention on first listen from a band determined to make 2013 a successful year. Mikey & The Scallywags fuse folk, bluegrass and gypsy rock to fine effect with six genre crossing tracks.

All six tracks features fine vocals throughout with the Fiddle playing of Juliana Erkkonen key to their charm such as on this track 'When We Were All One:

The title track is a rocking catchy tune, while 'Loola' is a good-time rockabilly track. All six songs are really good songs in their own right with the best track on the album is 'Holy Rollercoaster' that would stand up to anything from popular folk bands like 'Mumford & Sons' or 'The Lumineers'.
