Julie Feeney - Pages [Review]

Galwegian Julie Feeney released her second album called 'Pages' this month and I'm enjoying it big time. It's 35 minutes (at 35 minutes eligible for next year's Choice Awards) of beautiful Orchestral Pop music. The album kicks of with two amazing love songs 'Love is a Tricky Thing' and 'Impossibly Beautiful'. The twelve tracks really do highlight Julie's songwriting talent. As stated on her website:

"Not only did the multi-tasking composer-performer from Galway sing, compose and produce the songs on her extraordinary second album, pages, she even conducted the top-flight full orchestra which performed them all in one epic 6 hour recording session at the Irish Chamber Orchestra Studio in Limerick."

Pages is fundamentally a pop album in the style similar to Regina Spektor or Cathy Davey. I love the orchestral arrangements on this album which compliments Julie's singing well. The Enya-esque effects on Julie's voice in some of the tracks sounded out of place and distracting. Also there is not a massive amount of variety in the album. When this happens the listener relies on the lyrics to carry the tracks which for me on some songs didn't happen.

I would bet money on this album being short-listed for the Choice awards because musically and technically it's a great album. Highly recommended!
