EuroSonic: A Preview [Part Two]

Eurosonic Noorderslag is Europe's main conference and showcase festival for European music. With 180 European acts performing in more than 20 venues and over 3,000 music professionals from all over Europe attending and it's this week! In association with http://musicfromireland.org/ there are 21 Irish acts performing at EuroSonic over the next three days!

In part one I discussed the fortunes of the bands playing tonight and on Thursday. Here I discuss those bands playing in Groningen, Holland on Friday night!

Fionn ReganMachinefabriek 20:00 - 20:40

Fionn is in the middle of a resurgence at the moment in Ireland with his third album '100 Acres of Sycamore ' tipped by many to be included in the shortlist for the Choice Awards! EuroSonic could be the beginning of Fionn aiming to win back the ground he made after his debut album was nominated for a Mercury way back in 2007.

Cashier No.9 - Huize Maas, front 20:00 - 20:45

This appearance at EuroSonic will help to maintain the momentum Cashier No. 9 have built up over the last year.

Hello MoonJander AA  theater 21:15 - 22:00

Hello Moon is one of them bands than slipped me by last year without any notice. Their inclusion at the festival is a massive indication that this is a great indie band.

Rams' Pocket RadioSchouwburg 21:30 - 22:10

EuroSonic would probably have been the biggest event for this band if it wasn't for the fact that they support the mighty Snow Patrol the week after! The major doubt must concern the fact that the band don't have an album out yet and their opportunity to shine and most importantly to sell music is happening now!

Foy VanceDer AA-Kerk 23:30 - 00:00

I adore Foy's vocals, lyrics and music and if were fortunate enough to be on the streets of Groningen I'd be more excited at prospect of a Foy Vance set than any other. Foy's appearance at this is essential in order for him to build momentum for the release this year of his second album.

Funeral SuitsHuize Maas, front 23:00 - 23:45

It must be three years since I first seen Funeral Suits. I thought at that stage they had the guts of a great debut album. The band are still perfecting their sound with major groundwork being undertaken in the UK and Europe to build a fanbase! I'm sure EuroSonic will be a major success for the band.

The Cast of Cheers - Machinefabriek 22:00 - 22:40

The band have moved to London to write and record their second album and to build a fanbase there. The band will be aiming for festival bookings galore for the Summer!

Toby Kaar - Subsonic 00:30 - 01:15

As electronic music isn't my thing it's probably unfair to comment on Toby Kaar. I'm sure the European's will love the music as much as we Irish do!

We Cut Corners - De Spieghel, 00:30 - 01:15

We Cut Corners blew me away in the Summer with their performance at Cork XSW festival! This is another act who released an amazing album last year and will be hoping for inclusion on the Choice shortlist!
