Live Review: Levellers - St. Patrick's Cathedral, Sat 31st Jan 2015 [Temple Bar Trad Fest]

written by Peter Nagle

This gig promised so much. A folk-rock legendary band in Ireland's Largest Church as part of the 10 year celebration of the Temple Bar Trad Fest. What could go wrong?

A sterile crowd limited by the pews and the seats, a dry non alcohol gig, a booming echoing sound and a band intent on playing their lesser known songs from their back catalogue and you get a sense of some of the things that went wrong on Saturday night.

Levellers themselves were ok. Some of the fiddle playing was excellent. The two vocalists were on top form. The couple of songs I was familiar with sounded fine. The didgeridoo on that one song sounded fabulous. And the setting was superb.

Overall a mixed night. If I paid in and was a proper fan I would have been devastated. But I didn't and I'm not so it was a fine evening in St. Patrick's Cathedral.
