Live Review: Ciara Ashmore - Bleecker Street Unplugged, May 11th

Last night in the New York style cafe bar 'Bleecker Street Cafe' on the unfashionable northside Dublin street of Dorset Street, three wonderful acts performed great sets of original tunes to a packed and appreciative crowd.

Keith Grogan

Dublin singer-songwriter Keith Grogan kicked off the night with a fine set of original and cover songs. The choice of covers were perfect for me with Keith performing a cover of 'Old Man' from Neil Young and a delicious cover of 'Only Living Boy in New York' in a 'Bleecker Street Cafe'. Keith's delivery and vocals are really good and he has the potential to produce an excellent album some day.

Fronted by songwriter Keith O'Brien, The Missing Links last night were a four piece consisting of bass, cello, keys and backing vocals along with Keith's lead vocals and acoustic guitar. Highlights from the set were the single from last year 'Light It Up' and the set closer called 'The Strand' which is an acapella love song in the style and spirit of Luke Kelly.

Circumstances dictated that I only got to see a few songs from Ciara. It was her first Dublin gig in a year and the place was full of people wanting to hear Ciara's wonderful songs and unique vocals live. Ciara's voice has that Irish folk twang to it which makes her pretty unique in Ireland at the moment. Just like the other acts tonight when it comes to Ciara recording and releasing an album it'll be very special indeed.
