Since I begun this blog nearly four years ago there have been times when I've felt utterly compelled to review a gig within hours after the event. I don't normally review The Purple Sessions in Boyles due to my involvement with booking the acts but last night was special.
Sweet Little Lies http://sweetlittlelies.bandcamp.com/
First up was Roisin from the band Bundoran band 'Sweet Little lies'. Her pure vocals complements her folky reggae style songs really well. I'm already a big fan of the self-titled debut EP of the band with Roisin delivering a wonderful performance of tracks from the EP. Her closing song was this fine track.
Hailing from Drogheda but a resident in Perth, Austrailia, Fiachra Judge is carving out a music career with his band Violet Scene. The set included a fine cover of Caledonia.
Mara Simpson [Mara & The Bushkas] http://www.maraandthebushkas.com/
New Zealand musician and Berlin resident Mara Simpson from the band 'Mara & The Bushkas' gave an amazing performance in Boyles last night. I'd easily rank her performance in the top 10 of all acts I've seen in Boyles over the last three years. Her effortless guitar playing, wonderfully deep enriching songs and a stylish charm were simply breathtaking.
Michael Brunnock http://www.facebook.com/michael.brunnock
Headlining last night is one of my all time favourite artists Michael Brunnock with a really superb performance of songs from his most recent album 'The Orchard' as well as a song from the 'Little Palace' album and a song from the soundtrack from the movie 'This Must Be The Place'. Michael's deliver is faultless and he has the songs that can make a difference to those who listen.
