Live Review: Bona Fide Federation - The Grand Social 12th Jan

Cork's Bona Fide Federation took the risk to book a Dublin gig early in January and it paid off! The sizable crowd were treated to a great night's music from the headline band and their exceptionally good support Henrietta Game.

The six piece band fronted by an amazing vocalist Triona O'Neill performed a set consisting of tracks from their debut EP Night Train, new songs as well as a tasty cover of Feist's 'My Moon, My Man'.

The band's sound was a refreshing mix of Pop, Folk, Orchestra Jazz and many more sub genres! The focus point of the band is the stylish vocalist who controls the stage with her impressive vocals and performance. The band brought the songs to life with exceptional musicianship. It took me a few songs to notice the band don't have a guitarist in their set-up. There was no need when you have drums, bass, backing vocals and trumpet, cello and piano. In fact piano and cello are the lead instruments of the majority of the songs.

Song highlights for me were the tracks 'Festival', the single from last year 'Night train' and this beautiful song 'Juanita Cadenza'.

This was a superb performance from a band who are beginning to make a name for themselves. It won't be long until Bona Fide Federation get the recognition their talent warrants!
