Alien Envoy [Nick Kelly] - Nine Lives Album Details

Nick Kelly recently completed his 'Gestation' project to come up with a new album over nine concerts in Whelans over nine months.

The album's called "NINE LIVES", and according to Nick's message below to his mailing list it's very special for at least nine reasons.

From Nick Kelly .....

1. As the name suggests, it's live. "NINE LIVES" was recorded at Whelans, Dublin, over the course of Gestation, the nine-month interactive project which concluded in May. I can't think of anybody since Michelle Shocked who's put out a live album of totally new material. No overdubs, no underhand studio trickery.

2. It's got loads of great people singing and playing on it. People like Ann Scott, the Softly Swelling Strings, Joe Chester, Briana Corrigan, Boo Hewerdine, Colin Morris, Emmaline Duff-Fallon, Pete Pamf, Bill Blackmore's brass section, and The Fat Lady Sings.

3. It's not too long.

4. Some people already own it. If you made it down to the last Gestation show on May 26th, you already have your free copy of "NINE LIVES" in an individually numbered wallet. For the official retail release, I've expanded the packaging to include lyrics, sleeve notes and a selection of images contributed by brilliant and generous artists, one for each song. So even if you already have your free copy from the gig, you may still want to order the new version to get all that cool new packaging, complete with your own name credit (see 6, below).

5. But you'll still be well ahead of the posse if you pre-order within the next couple of weeks. Order your copy before midnight on Thursday July 15th, and I'll ship it to you by July 30th. It won't be in the shops until October 1st.

6. And you'll be personally immortalised in the album artwork. By pre-ordering the record, you're sponsoring the release - and every sponsor's name (or that of the person they choose to nominate in their place) will be credited on the official (and very gorgeous) album artwork. One name credit per album ordered, order as many as you want.

7. The artist responsible is ALIEN ENVOY, rather than Nick Kelly. I've decided to use ALIEN ENVOY rather than my own name to release this record for two reasons: one, it seems to better reflect the collaborative nature of this record's creation (more like a band or collective than a solo artist); and two, because it just sounds kind of cool and interesting.

8. It's fantastic value. I want as many humans as possible to hear "NINE LIVES", so I'm selling it for just €12 (plus P&P).

9. It's a great record. Obviously I would say that. But it is, honestly.

You can pre-order your copy of "NINE LIVES" at the newly-redesigned Self Possessed Records Shop at www.selfpossessedrecords.com. (To celebrate our redesign and new release, and to clear some shelf place in our stock room, we've slashed the prices on my back catalogue CDs too.)

And remember, the cut-off date for getting your name on the artwork is midnight on THURSDAY JULY 15th.

You can keep in touch with my future plans for ALIEN ENVOY via the official facebook page at www.facebook.com/alienenvoy. And please feel free to spread the word - you are my main publicity machine.
