Mullingar - Ireland's Bellybutton AKA Ireland's Seattle by Shayne Byrne (Arrow in the Sky)
For a long time now Mullingar has been a hub for the musical soul, once a stop on tours for "Thin Lizzy" & "Horslips" and the home of the King of Showbands "Joe Dolan" and continuing the lineiage right up to the uncrowned kings of Pop-Rock "The Blizzards"
It has long since been a home to non-Mullingar musicians amongst which I am one. Being here 8 years I've got to know such fellow blow-ins as Pete Courtney. Shane Wearan (The Pale), Duncan Patterson (Antimatter & Ion) and Johnny & Micheal Cronin (The Aftermath). All drawn to this town because of the comradary created within this small town scene.
Along with all these blow-ins the town has a rich variety of singer/songwriters and bands and I'm gonna let you in on the hidden little secrets that they are. starting with
The Aftermath - Two of the nicest gents in Rock, Johnny & Micheal Cronin along with Justin McNabb and Martin Grey have created their own brand of Britrock infused with Mike Scott showmanship and ear for a hook.

Peter Doran - Amazing Singer/Songwriter readying his 2nd album which is sure to astound. Peter deserves a hell of a lot more recognition for his body of work.

Innate - Local heroes for over 10 years with the 2nd best singer in town, sorry Frank I gotta look after my boy Conor :D

also worth a mention is http://www.myspace.com/mysterywhiteboys1 (The lads from innate's Jeff Buckley Tribute)
Crimson - Balls to the wall good old Rock & Roll. Fergal, Aidan, Kieran & Kev have a wide range of influences from Rory Gallagher and Therpy! to Manics and AC/DC

Not men but giants - Fun time Rock-Pop like the favorite cousin of The Blizzards

Ever 27 - Rock with a flair for a pop melody & hook. Featuring Ex waiting to explode guitarist & drummer Paul Feery and Eoin Fitzsimmons respectively. with Tanya O Callaghan on bass, that girl can play. currently looking for new singer, so lets see what direction that takes this incredibly skilled group of musicians.

Darragh J Glennon (Ex Trigea) - Another powerhouse vocalist with the skills on guitar to boot. Debut album out now with more great songs on the way. album features Tommy Moore (Waiting to Explode) & Ricky Byrne (Triega & Seven Days)

Touchwood (not local but featuring Darren McConville Ex Triega) - Just a lil shout out to Darren's current project

Seven Days (again not local but featuring Ricky Byrne Ex Triega) - Just another lil shout out to Ricky's current project

side note : Triega ( http://www.myspace.com/triegamusic ) were a power trio of epic proportions, there live shows were truly a sight to behold. Energy like that is hard to come by in some acts. The town misses them.
Icon on Fire - Emo tinged Pop. With what will sure to be the best drummer in town in a couple of years Brian Masterson at only 17 he is already one serious hitter.

Glenn McMahon - heartfelt lyricist with a gift for the right atmosphere for the right song. sounds like M.Ward meets Ed Harcourt. Well worth adding to your music collection.

WE GO GO - we go go is what happens when you get the roots of the Foos and Biffy and let it stew in a weezer broth for a good long soak.

Ones to watch - the next generation of talent is starting to imerge in the guise of Pieter Mens (Mens Club), Joey Mulligan (Joey & Sarah), Paul Martin & Keith McLoughin (The Angry Bears).
