The Lynchburg Mob - EP Review

The band is Ian Plunkett on vocals/guitar, Darragh Lynch guitar/keyboards, Brian Diskin on bass and Paul Stokes on Drums and are together just over a year. They have been crowned DCU BOTB Champs for this year and in April 2010 they will compete in the King Kong club final. This coming Friday is the EP launch in The Village.

The three song EP has a real early 90's nostalgia rock sound. The vocals remind me alot of Johnny Cronin of The Aftermath. The music is similar to Something Happens from back in early 90's. The potential is evident on the EP that the band are talented musicians. The opening track 'Remaining Earnest' included a great bass-line, strong vocals and impressive guitar rifts. With some tweaking it wouldn't be too far from the sound of a band like Editors. The Ep closer 'Revolutionise' is a similar song to the opening track with a decent chorus. 'Edgartown' is the song which shows most promise for me. There is upbeat guitar rifts, nice vocals and great melodies.

The support for the EP launch next Friday is Gypsies On The Autobahn and Donegal based band Empire Electric playing their first Dublin show. Opening the show is Dave Barrett, a 17 year old guitarist from Clontarf.
